What is Facial Fat Grafting?
Facial fat grafting, also known as autologous fat transfer, is a surgical procedure that transfers fat from one part of the body to the face. The process begins with the extraction of fat cells from areas like the abdomen, thighs, or hips through liposuction. After the fat is purified, it is carefully injected into areas of the face that have lost volume due to aging, such as the cheeks, lips, temples, and under the eyes.
The use of the patient’s own fat makes the results look natural and reduces the risk of allergic reactions or rejection. In addition to facial rejuvenation, the procedure has the added benefit of contouring the area where the fat was harvested.
