What is Resensation®
After Breast Reconstruction?
Resensation® is an advanced microsurgical technique designed to support sensory nerve restoration during breast reconstruction typically at the time of mastectomy. During reconstruction, Dr. Mazzaferro may use a processed nerve allograft, such as Avance®, to help reconnect sensory nerves affected during breast removal surgery. Over time, this creates a pathway that may allow nerves to regenerate and potentially restore varying degrees of function and protective sensation to the reconstructed breast and nipple.
This technique can often be incorporated into immediate reconstruction performed at the time of mastectomy or, in some cases, during delayed reconstruction procedures. Because nerve recovery varies from patient to patient, outcomes differ based on anatomy, reconstruction type, and individual healing patterns.
